Tech Details: NTSC, Full screen / 4:3, Dolby Digital, 108 mins, Chapters 5 mins Comments: Single camera filming from the balcony to stage right Some claim this to be pro shot but it isn't quite good enough for that plus there's an occasional rail at the bottom of the picture .and the very rare head that block the very front of the stage. Comments: Demos written for the proposed Warner Bros musical based on their series of movies but which was pulled in favour of "Le State" after the failure of "Dance of the Vampires". These songs haven't been forgiven as Meat Loaf, covered two songs on "The Monster Is Loose" in 2006 and Steinman's band "The Dream Engine" covered several tracks, Some of the BATMAN songs will appear in "Bat Out Of Hell: The Musical", a rock version of Peter Pan. Line Up: Elaine Caswell - Vocals, Rob Evan - Vocals, Karine Hannah - Vocals, Jim Steinman - Piano & Vocals Track Listing: Gotham City - Graveyard shift, In the land of the Pig, the butcher in king, Not Allowed to Love, The Joker's Song (Wonderful Toys), Catwoman's Song (I Need all the love I can Get), We're Still the Children We Once Were, Cry to Heaven, Not Allowed to Love (Dance version), Not Allowed to Love (pop version) |

Tech Details: PAL, Full screen / 4:3, LPCM, 125 mins,
Comments: Great quality filming of the Hungarian cast from a single camera in the balcony, to the left of centre stage Pictures is as crisp as sharp as you could want as is the sound. However, there are some rather sharp cuts/edits between the main scenes/songs which tends to imply this may have been a rehearsal tape of some sort. as there doesn't appear to be an audience in the theatre. Great staging though that is, perhaps even better than the London original. Cast Andrea Maho, Zoltan Miller, Nikolett Gallusz, Peter Pankotai, Attila Barat, Zsuzsanna Vago,, Janos Voltai, Veronica Nadas, Sandor Nagy, Lila Polyak Janos Szemenei, Attila Serban,, Adrienn Szego, , Janos Koltai |

DVD |
Tech Details: NTSC, Full screen / 4:3, Dolby Digital, Chapters 5 mins Comments: The full, unedited press reels, filmed with a single camera, camera that can flip around somewhat during the ensemble scenes but mostly is good and steady Sound is soundboard but only on the right stereo channel, although this does even on at times, and somewhat on the quiet side.. Most of the main numbers are included as are a few scenes although the cuts between them can be somewhat sudden. And there's a permanent on screen time code bottom centre. ![]() |
DVD |
Tech Details: NTSC, Full screen / 4:3, Dolby Digital, 143 mins, Chapters 5 mins Comments: Single tripod mounted pro shoot. Camera is has perfect view of the entire outside stage, and knows where to look at all times Picture is good and clear but its the sound that lets this down a bit. Clearly pure soundboard (no audience noise) it was recorded way too loud, and only on the left channel this causes distortion on the higher notes, and during some of the ensemble singing. which is a great shame as the all-volunteer - and rather young - community theatre cast puts everything they can into this performance of the musical, which has been re-worked, with extra songs from its short Broadway run. Cast - Unknown Track Listing Act One Opening, Can't Wait, Talk to Her, Zoltar Speaks, Say Good Morning to Mom, You're a Big Boy Now, The Time of Your Life, Fun, Welcome to MacMillan Toys, My Secretary's In Love, Welcome to MacMillan Toys (reprise), Let's Not Move Too Fast, Do You Want to Play Games?, Stars, Little Susan Lawrence, Cross the Line Act Two Entr'acte, It's Time, Stop, Time, Happy Birthday Josh (The Nightmare), Dancing All the Time, I Want to Know, Coffee, Black, The Real Thing, The Real Thing (reprise), One Special man, When You're Big / Skateboard Romance, We're Gonna Be Fine, --curtain calls-- Fun (encore), Closing Music |

Comments: The first London reading of the musical based on the 1999 movie. It takes place is a small room with the last lined up along the back wall, reading/singing their lines from the librettos on lecterns. Stage directions and movements are read out. Comments: Single camera shooting from the balcony with a pretty good view of the central part of the stage. A few bits of heads in the way during wide shots but otherwise fairly unobstructed with some nice close ups Sound is very good to excellent. This is the last night of Jim Steinman's troubled musical in it's Broadway incarnation that included rather too much humour for its own good, some of which is unnecessarily rude. Just see how many references to other Steinman songs you can spot. The plot of this short lived tour, is somewhat different to the film, missing two main characters of Matthew and Tommy and with some of the songs appearing in a different order leaving Tommy Tune on stage nearly all of the time and doing a sterling job too. Comments: Sometimes called the “Reprise concert,” but this isn’t a concert it’s a full staging of the show, simply with a superminimal set as suggested in HAiR's staging notes. Authorized archival taping from just slightly left of center, no obstructions, minor generation loss. All in all, a fantastic, clear video of a great show, quite representative of the traditional, minimal, small-budget ensemble productions of HAiR. Cast: Sam Harris as Claude, Stephen Weber as Berger, Jennifer Leigh Warren as Sheila, Rod Keller as Woof, Allan Louis as Hud, Stacy Francis as Dionne, Marissa Winokur as Jeannie, Alisan Porter as Crissy, Dan O’Brien as Margaret Mead Track Listing Act 1 Aquarius, Donna, Hashish, Sodomy, Colored Spads, Manchester, Ain't Got No, I Believe In Love, Air , Dead End, Initials, I Got Life, Going Down, Hair, My Conviction, Easy To Be Hard, Don't Put It Down, Hippie Life, Frank Mills, Be-In , Where Do I Go, Dead End Act 2 Overture, Electric Blues, Black Boys, White Boys, Walking in Space, Abie Baby, Three-Five-Zero-Zero, What A Piece Of Work Is Man, Good Morning Starshine, The Bed, The Flesh Failures (Let The Sun Shine In) |

Picture is mostly clear and very sharp, although does show some slight signs of breaking up, especially if there is a lot of motion on stage. Some heads do block the very front lip of the stage and there are a few black outs plus some searching around for the action but that's to be expected from this high energy show. Sound though is near perfect throughout. Disc is authored to a high standard with full song indexing, plus an added title containing scans of the Playbill from the performance. The story of John Lennon's life, mixed with a lot of his songs. but with a slightly confusing set up, with several people playing the different roles, often at the same time! And the all female 'Beatles' are a little odd, if good. Therefore its not really a great surprise the show didn't last for that long. However, many of the vocal performances are very good. and the humor is very in keeping with John's attitude to life. DVD |
Tech Details: NTSC, Full screen / 4:3, Dolby Digital, 122 mins,
Comments: Single camera filming from roughly the center of the balcony, with a good clear view of all but the very front of the stage, where a something (probably a rail) blocks the actor's lower legs. A few cover ups mostly at the end of the big numbers. Picture is perfectly clear as is the sound. Cast: Sierra Boggess as Ariel, Derrick Baskin as Jetsam, Tituss Burgess as Sebastian, Jonathan Freeman as Grimsby, Eddie Korbich as Scuttle, Norm Lewis as King Triton, Tyler Maynard as Flotsam, Sean Palmer as Prince Eric, Sherie Rene Scott as Ursula, Cody Hanford as Flounder, John Treacy Egan as Chef Louis, Tim Federle as Gull |

Little Shop of Horrors | Encores! | New York City Center, New York, NY, USA | 1/7/15 | Cam | 9 | -- | 2xMP4 |
Tech: H264,
720x404, 23 fps, AAC, 60+41mins, Comments: Single camera filming from the right side of the balcony. Good clear view of most of the stage. Some nice close ups. A few heads in shot during wide shots and some wondering which can be forgiven given the nature of the performance which was the first of just three. Full show, but with no scenery and the band on stage. Actors have scrips and are mostly on stools, it's still brilliant though as they improvise. Line up: Jake Gyllenhaal as Seymour, Ellen Greene as Audrey, Taran Killam as Orin, Tracy Nicole Chapman, Marva Hicks and Ramona Keller as the urchins, Joe Grifasi as Mr. Mushnik, Eddie Cooper as Audrey II |

Tech Details: NTSC, Full screen / 4:3, Dolby Digital, Chapters every 5 mins, Menu/s acts only Comments: Single camera filming from the balcony, center on to the stage but with a rail & heads occasionally appearing. However whilst Act2 is complete, there is a 43minute section in the middle of act1 that is missing. There are also several blackouts during the remaining footage and occasional wondering, but its a new show that's understandable.. Picture is slightly washed out by the lights, but reasonably crisp and sharp all the same. Sound is mostly good but with some 'rustling'. Cast: Ramin Karimloo as The Phantom, Sierra Boggess as Christine Daaé, Joseph Millson as Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny, Liz Robertson as Madame Giry, Summer Strallen as Meg Giry, Louise Madison as Fleck [u/s], Adam Pierce as Squelch, Jami Reid-Quarrell as Gangle, Charlie Manton as Gustave |
