Broadway Oliver!  Mark Hellinger Theatre, New York, USA  --/4/84 Cam 9 DVD

Tech Details : NTSC, Full screen / 4:3, Dolby Digital, 123mins, Chapters 5 mins
Comments:
Single camera filming from roughly the center of the top balcony. Picture suffers from a little generation loss, and can be shaky at times especially during the closer footage, but is remarkably good considering when it was done and the size of video cameras back then. Sound is really good.
Cast: Ron Moody as Fagin, Patti LuPone as Nancy, Braden Danner as Oliver Twist, David Garlick as The Artful Dodger, Michael Allinson as Mr. Brownlow, Louis Beachner as Dr. Grimwig, Alan Braunstein as Noah Claypool, Graeme Campbell as Bill Sikes, Frances Cuka as Mrs. Sowerberry, Andi Henig as Charlotte Sowerberry, Roderick Horn as Mr. Sowerberry, Elizabeth Larner as Mrs. Bumble  / Mrs. Bedwin, Sarah E. Litzsinger as Bet, Michael McCarty as Mr. Bumble

The show was revamped for the west end, with additional music and lyrics in 1994

Comments:
Single camera filming almost directly onto centre stage from the balcony. Good clear view throughout but some hidden camera moments, plus the filmer only appears to have to zoom settings, wide (entire stage) and mid range so there are no close ups at all, plus the switch between the  two formats can be a touch sudden. Picture is slightly generated, and a touch over compressed, but still very watch able. Sound is very good. however.
Cast: Jim Dale - Fagin, Ruthie Henshall - Nancy, Joe McGann - Bill Sikes

Comments:
Single tripod mounted camera filming from balcony to the left of stage. Mostly stage wide & mid range shots with few close ups. Picture is mostly good, although there's some wash out from the stage lighting, and a little tape wear. Sound is really good but from the camera, rather than sound board, so can be a little distant at times, picking up audience noise. Performances are really rather good - if you ignore the accents! -  in this small scale and slightly cut down version of the show with a few of the minor dramatic scenes missing.
Cast: Horace English as Fagin, Bonnie Gillen as Nancy, Frederic Webb or Don Hooper as Bill Sikes,  Paul Hand as Oliver, Jared J Watson as Artful Dodger, Laura Walker as Bet, Wayne Dillman as Mr Brownlow,  Leonard Yoakum as Mr. Bumble, Mary Zapczynski as Widow Corney, Gordon Schuckers as Mr. Sowerberry, Bonnie Bailey as Mrs Sowerberry, Maggie Scoville as Charlotte, Eric Champney as Noah Claypole

Comments:
Closing night, pro filmed from the rear of the theatre. Some wash out due to bright lights and a few focus issues but generally very good indeed. Sound suffers slightly from an odd stereo mix, especially during the opening numbers where it seems only one of the workhouse kids was wired for sound (and not the best one!) However other than that the sound is very good sticking to the movie more than the original musical so omits the Bill Sykes song "My Name" Mind you there are some 'interesting' attempts at a English accents.. :)
Line Up: Dante Baldassin as Oliver Twist, Raul Aranas as Fagin, Eric Shelley as The Artful Dodger, Daina Michelle Griffith as Nancy, Michael J. Farina as Mr. Bumble, Susan J. Jacks as Widow Corney, Mischa Kischkum as Mr. Sowerberry & Chairman & Dr. Grimwig, Melinda Tanner as Mrs. Sowerberry & Old Sally, Jaymeson Metz as Noah & Charlie Bates, Sarah Innes as Charlotte, Michelle Vientimilla as Bet, Dan Cooney as Bill Sykes, Mary-Ann Trippet as Mrs. Bedwin, Michael Hayward-Jones as Mr. Brownlow

Comments:
Multi-camera pro-shot with slight presumably from a TV broadcast VHS Slight generation loss and a touch on the dark side. The cameras, especially those close up, tend to wonder on occasion but footage is generally really good. Sound is good, if variable in volume due to the stage edge mikes so that if anyone turns around while speaking/singing, their voice suddenly gets quieter as it seems only a couple of the lead actors were wearing their own mikes. and  mostly via the right stereo channel Good production of the show, in English
Line Up: Harry Borg as Fagin, Claudette Pace as Nancy, Dean Zammit as Oliver, Jon Rosser as Bill Sykes, Daniel Lake as The Artful Dodger, Edward Mercieca as Mr Bumble, Louiselle Vassello as Widow Courtnet, Alan Montanaro as Mr Sowerberry, Rowena Grima as Mrs. Sowerberry, Andea Pace as Beet, Philip Stilon as Noah Claypole, Pia Zammer as Charlotte Sowerberry, Monique Ranilioo as Mrs, Michael Calascione as Mr Brownlow, George Abela as Dr Grimbeg
