Single camera shoot from the circle directly opposite the middle of the stage. The filmer provides lots of great close up plus, he pulls back at just the right moments to capture the entire, impressive, TSO staging complete with massive moving lighting rig, flames, fire balls, 'snow', pyro, and, the 'frigging' lazars. Sound comes from the camera for the first track and a bit, at which point audio version of the show (see link below) has spliced in to give a full sound that boarders on soundboard quality at times. And, if all that wasn't enough, you get Joan Jett as well!!! Each disc therefore contains the full menu from the original release but naturally, only the links for the material on that disc actually work. Bonus Rosemont material is from a single camera filming to the left of the stage from the back of the arena. The show itself is wonderfully filmed by three audience cameras, all of which have a great view of the entire elaborate stage, to get the full effect of the light show, plus some wonderful close ups. Sounds is good if a touch on the tinny side. It is minor and adds to the “you are there” feeling in my opinion. All editing was done using the original source up-sampled to 32bit/48kHz then down-sampled to CD quality (16bit/44kHz stereo). I tracked the narration and introductions separately because I like to have music only when I have a player on shuffle. I have found that the in-ear binaural mics get overwhelmed by excessive bass so I added a bass roll off this year with satisfactory results. Now, because this is a binaural recording, the best sound will come from wearing headphones. I think that it still sounds fine on a full sized system, but you may want to up the bass a bit if you don’t have sub-woofers. Some people say they get an odd displacement feeling from binaural recordings on full systems, but I don’t find that to be the case. I thought the sound was the best I have heard yet. The vocals were spot on across the board. As a side note, my kid got the guitar that they give to one child at the end of every show. So I am extra happy that I was able to capture this show. You hear a couple of remarks from him in the beginning then it is all show. Two are position down the front for some wonderful close ups, while the third is at the back to capture the full magnificence of a TSO show. All feeds then wonderfully combined flawlessly to show the best of everything. Sound is also perfect to make this about as good as an audience shoot can get. The TSO are back where it all started - for Savatage - in what they call a homecoming show, and it's brilliant, with the band and singers on fire. As a bonus, the author of this DVD has include alternative songs, sometimes used in the set list. One from the evening show in the same location, and the other compiled from various sources to make this the complete TSO 2012 show.
